As the Chief Operating Officer, Martin Pierce is responsible for the development and execution of the overall corporate strategy and brings more than 15 years of leadership experience to Morgan Samuels.
Prior to joining the firm, Martin served in various roles over six years with Milliken & Company, a diversified industrial manufacturer with expertise across performance & protective textiles, floor coverings, and specialty chemicals. Most recently, Martin led the global commercial launch and go-to-market strategy for an organic, disruptive innovation platform within the floor coverings division. While serving within the performance & protective textiles division, he led the integration of a strategic growth acquisition and led the financial and strategic aspects of a global protective fabrics business. Martin began his career at Milliken in corporate development where he was responsible for structuring, leading, and delivering special initiatives across the company, including corporate initiatives, M&A, portfolio management, and strategy development.
Martin was previously an Associate in the Industrials group of the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in New York where he advised on multiple M&A transactions and financing opportunities. He was responsible for researching investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, performing detailed analyses, and negotiating terms for numerous industrial clients.
Earlier in his career, Martin served five years in the Unites States Army as a Field Artillery officer. He held various leadership positions, including platoon leader, executive officer, battalion fire direction officer, and battery commander observer-controller/trainer. Martin deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and received several achievement and services awards for his contributions while on active duty and in combat, including the Bronze Star Medal.
Martin holds a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University’s S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management where he held the distinction of being a Roy H. Park Leadership Fellow and Johnson Leadership Fellow. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he was the class valedictorian, honor graduate, and a member of the NCAA Division I Army Football team.
