A leading entertainment industry advocate organization

Client

A trade association representing the interests of major US film, TV, and home-entertainment companies retained Morgan Samuels to find a Chief Technology Officer to boost their technological capabilities with a particular focus on the area of cyber-security. As the worlds of digital technology, content, and communications continue to converge, this role would be integral in setting the tone and technology roadmap for the entertainment industry as a whole.

Considerations

The Morgan Samuels team needed to think creatively to identify candidates, as the client’s strongest relationships were with studios whose talent was off-limits. In addition, the successful placement required IP and video expertise and a proven track record interacting with Capitol Hill, as the client organization sits squarely between the entertainment industry and the government.

Given these parameters, our research strategy targeted top technology talent in the following industry sectors: Internet, digital media, social media, content distribution networks, cable providers, entertainment services and technology services.

Impact

In the course of the search we identified and contacted over 320 executives. A robust slate of 14 was presented to the client, then narrowed to two exceptional finalists. Ultimately, the client selected the ideal placement – an executive with a background in public television – where the placement’s ability to liaise between government policy administrators and studio heads was absolutely key to success. The placement’s previous experience also included a mix of large, industry-leading companies and smaller, more entrepreneurial ventures. Morgan Samuels completed the search in 84 days.
