Morgan Samuels Places CFO at Axalta Coating Systems

February 14, 2013 – The leading human capital firm Morgan Samuels has announced the placement of Robert W. Bryant as Chief Financial Officer at Axalta Coating Systems.  Morgan Samuels provides innovative and strategic services focused on identifying, attracting, and retaining top executive talent.  The search was completed in a rapid 64 days, beating the firm’s best in class average cycle time of 76 days.

Axalta Coating Systems, formerly DuPont Performance Coatings, was recently acquired by private equity firm The Carlyle Group for $4.9 billion.  Previously a unit of DuPont Chemical, Axalta is a carve-out.  Mr. Bryant will be tasked with successfully transitioning the business into a stand-alone entity, with an independent financial platform, with appropriate reporting, management, and treasury, and cash management systems.  Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the position is operationally-focused and responsible for driving the company’s financing activities, as well as directing its financial vision to support successful company operations and drive growth and profitability.

With 14,000 employees and $4.3 billion in revenue, Axalta Coating Systems is a global supplier of coatings to the transportation and industrial sectors.  The company has more than 90 years in the coatings industry, manufacturing and selling coatings and application tools to automobile repair body shops and original equipment manufacturers in the automotive and heavy-duty truck markets.  With 35 plants, seven technology centers and 42 training centers around the world, Axalta Coating Systems serves more than 120,000 customers in 130 countries.

Prior to joining Axalta, Mr. Bryant was at Roll Global since 2007, serving first as Vice President of Strategy, Global Sourcing, and Mergers and Acquisitions, and then as Chief Financial Officer.  Before that, he was with Grupo Industrial Saltillo in Saltillo, Mexico.  He’s also worked for Booz Allen & Hamilton, International Finance Corporation, and Credit Suisse First Boston, and operated his own consulting firm.  Mr. Bryant earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard.  He’s fluent in Spanish, and speaks Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese.  “It was a pleasure partnering with Carlyle and Axalta on this critical placement,” said Bert Hensley, CEO of Morgan Samuels, who led this search.  “We are thrilled because we think Robert is a great fit and we are confident in his ability to drive strategic growth for Axalta.”
