Patrick Carney Joins Royal Robbins as CFO
May 20, 2013 – Leading human capital consulting firm, Morgan Samuels, has announced the placement of Patrick Carney as Chief Financial Officer at Royal Robbins, a leading designer, manufacturer and retailer of outdoor and travel apparel. Morgan Samuels provides innovative and strategic services focused on identifying, attracting, and retaining top executive talent. The placement was made in a cycle time of 58 days, beating the firm’s best in class average of 76 days. “It was a pleasure partnering with the teams at Royal Robbins and BRS,” said Todd Wyles, a Partner and Private Equity Practice Leader at Morgan Samuels who led the search. “We know Patrick is going to be a great fit for such a critical position for a successful carve-out.”
Royal Robbins was recently acquired by the New York-based private equity firm Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherrill & Co. The former parent company (American Recreation) had provided many of the shared services for Royal Robbins, including the finance function. BRS and Royal Robbins has tasked Mr. Carney with building a scalable finance infrastructure to transition the business into a stand-alone entity and support the company’s rapid growth. Mr. Carney will report directly to Royal Robbins’ CEO Bob Orlando.
Royal Robbins was founded in 1968 by an internationally acclaimed climber and kayaker. The company has gained worldwide recognition for its casual and affordable activewear, with a commitment to innovation, style, utility, and a connection to the core customer. It’s well known for designing products with technical features for consumers seeking performance-oriented garments, but with the style and comfort to cross over into everyday life.
Mr. Carney had been the Director of Finance and Administration for Ciacomex, a Mexican apparel company, since 2005. Prior to that, he was in a similar role with Visa USA. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University, and a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from the University of San Francisco. He also holds a Certificate in Information Systems and Management from the University of California at Berkeley and is fluent in Spanish. “Patrick had the perfect background and experience we were looking for, and we know he’s going to support Royal Robbins through this high-growth phase,” Wyles said.
